LiquorShop is the group's off-licence banner, opened first in 2002 and run in two versions next to the supermarkets it takes its name from: 522 Shoprite LiquorShops and 311 Checkers LiquorShops in South Africa, with a further few dozen elsewhere in southern Africa. Keeping liquor in a separate adjacent store rather than in the supermarket is partly a licensing requirement of South African law.
