About Philips Sonicare
Sonicare is the power toothbrush developed by Optiva Corporation, a start-up whose co-founders included University of Washington dentistry and bioengineering academics, and later acquired by Philips. It anchors the Oral Healthcare business, a third of Philips' Personal Health sales, which also sells brush-head subscriptions and teeth whitening. Its brush heads are now made from 70 per cent bio-based plastic, and the 5500 and 7100 took the top places in a Stiftung Warentest comparison.
