Birds Eye (UK & Ireland) is owned by Nomad Foods (the United Kingdom, NYSE: NOMD), which acquired the brand on 30 June 2015.[1][2] Birds Eye (UK & Ireland) was founded in 1938 in the United Kingdom and was independent until 2015.
Birds Eye is the largest frozen food brand in Britain and Ireland, descended from the American inventor Clarence Birdseye's flash-freezing process. Captain Birdseye, the character used to sell its fish fingers since 1967, is among the longest-serving advertising figures on British television. Unilever sold the American business separately in 1986, so the North American brand of the same name now belongs to Conagra.
Nomad Foods bought Iglo Group, owner of Birds Eye in Britain and iglo across continental Europe, for about €2.6 billion. It was the first acquisition by a vehicle set up specifically to consolidate European frozen food.
