Dickies is owned by VF Corporation (the United States, NYSE: VFC), which acquired the brand on 2 October 2017.[1][2] Dickies was founded in 1922 in Fort Worth, Texas and was independent until 2017.
Dickies was founded in Texas in 1922 making bib overalls for farm and factory work, and its 874 work trouser has been sold essentially unchanged since 1967. Adopted by skaters and by Mexican-American communities in California, it crossed into streetwear. VF acquired it in 2017.
VF Corporation acquired Williamson-Dickie for about $820 million, buying the workwear brand founded in Texas in 1922. Dickies had become streetwear well beyond the trades it was made for, a shift the company had not engineered.
