Jif is owned by J.M. Smucker (the United States, NYSE: SJM), which acquired the brand on 18 June 2002.[1][2] Before J.M. Smucker, Jif was owned by Procter & Gamble from 1958 to 2002.[3]
Jif is the largest peanut butter brand in the United States, launched by Procter & Gamble in 1958 and sold to Smucker in 2001. Its advertising line about choosy mothers choosing Jif has run since the 1970s. The identically named cleaner sold in Europe is an unrelated Unilever brand.
Ownership timeline of Jif
1958 – 2002Procter & Gamble[3]verifiedProcter & Gamble created Jif and spun it off to Smucker in 2002 in a tax-free transaction.
Smucker acquired Jif and Crisco from Procter & Gamble in a spin-off and merger valued at about $840 million. A company known for jam became the largest peanut butter seller in America, so the two halves of a sandwich came under one owner.
