About Angostura aromatic bitters
Angostura aromatic bitters was first formulated in 1824 in Venezuela, as a medicinal tincture, by Dr Johann Siegert, surgeon general in Simón Bolívar's revolutionary army, and is named after the town of Angostura, now Ciudad Bolívar. Siegert's three sons moved to Trinidad in the 1870s, and it has been made there since to a recipe the company says is unchanged and secret. Recognisable by its oversized label and yellow cap, it reaches 170 markets, and Angostura's bitters segment had revenue of TT$316 million in 2025.
