About Mariënburg
Mariënburg is SAB's overproof rum, sold at 65%, 81% and 90% alcohol, and named for the plantation in Commewijne east of Paramaribo where Nederlandsche Handel-Maatschappij built a central sugar factory in 1882. That factory supplied SAB with molasses until it closed in 1986, and the site — whose labour history is bound up with indentured workers brought from British India and Java — survives in colonial-era buildings, in Surinamese place names and in this rum, which is the company's most direct link to where its spirit began.
