Nioxin is owned by KKR (the United States, NYSE: KKR) through its subsidiary Wella Company, which acquired the brand on 1 December 2020 from Coty.[1][2] Nioxin was founded in 1987 in the United States and was independent until 2020.
This ownership is reported in official statements but has not yet been matched to a regulatory filing.
Nioxin makes scalp and hair treatments for thinning hair, sold through salons and positioned around scalp health rather than cosmetic thickening. It sits within Wella Company alongside the other professional brands. Wella Company was carved out of Coty in 2020 when KKR acquired a majority of the professional beauty business.
Coty sold a controlling sixty per cent stake in its professional beauty and retail hair business to KKR, valuing it at about $4.3 billion. The carve-out created Wella Company as a standalone business, which is why salon brands and Coty fragrances now sit under different owners.
