Vitaminwater is owned by Coca-Cola (the United States, NYSE: KO), which acquired the brand on 7 June 2007.[1][2] Vitaminwater was founded in 2000 in the United States and was independent until 2007.
Vitaminwater is a flavoured, vitamin-fortified water launched by Energy Brands in 2000. Coca-Cola acquired it with Glacéau in 2007, and the brand later faced litigation over health claims that led to changes in how it was marketed in the United States.
Coca-Cola acquired Energy Brands, known as Glacéau, for $4.1 billion in cash, buying vitaminwater and smartwater. It was the company's largest acquisition to that point and a bet that growth would come from outside carbonated drinks.
